M. Paula Sanders
My name is Paula Sanders and I’ve been a part-time, artist working out of my art studio in West Virginia and Florida for a number of years. For many years I worked with the Birth to Three program, the Governor's Cabinet and trained others in the field of education. I enjoy adding a unique perspective to my work in order to make each piece memorable. Work by paulawatercolor.com is not currently being exhibited. Commission pieces are also available.

Holly Hill, Florida
These are the Hardesty Homes in Rio Vista, part of Ormond Beach, Fla., a development by Walter Hardesty in the 1920s. By 1929 the depression had hit and many roads, a large Riviera Hotel and 38 homes had been built. 16 of these Mediterranean Revival homes still exist. I have begun painting them.
RIO VISTA HARDESTY HOMES
This home was built in 1938 and therefore, could not be a true Hardesty Home, but built to match the others in the Mediterranean Revival design.
RIO VISTA HARDESTY HOME
This is another Hardesty Home on Buena Vista. I painted this from several photos and personal viewings.

HARDESTY HOME ON BUENA VISTA
This is an example of how I painted the Hardesty Homes, another on Buena Vista. This came from pictures I took or found in books and on the internet.
This home was one of my first. I soon discovered many of these houses in my neighborhood and started painting them, with the help of my artist mentor, Ellen Rothenberg, who has painted for many years.
This home is right next door to the last one and easy to pick out as the next to paint.
My Kids, Coralie, Sky and Shanti in front of our home in WV.
I began my watercolor painting with copies of Beane and The Highwaymen oil paintings of Florida landscapes.
CARIBBEAN BEACH SHACK
Again, a Beanie Beane copy of a shack on a Caribbean beach. Learning about perspective, palm and ocean paintings.
A MICHAEL VIEW OF THE OUTERBANKS
This came from a photo of an artist friend, Michael Corlis. He took many ocean photos, which sort of started out my direction in watercolor painting. An artist’s theme can often be seen and felt throughout the years, collections, and even individual pieces.
One of my first tries at oceans from a photo.

HOME OF GRANDDAUGHTER OF WALTER HARDESTY
This home is not a Hardesty Home, yet it was built and belongs to the granddaughter of Walter Hardesty and feels like it was right from his playbook.
RIO VISTA PLOT OF WALTER HARDESTY
This is a photo from the Holly Hill Museum of the plot from Walter Hardesty for the Rio Vista from early 20s. More paintings and better photos still to come!
HOME OF MARGARET K. RAWLINGS
This painting is one of the earliest works of my career, yet it touches upon some elements that continue to fascinate me and are somehow embedded into my work. An artist’s theme can often be seen and felt throughout the years, collections, and even individual pieces. Please get in touch in order to learn more about this piece.
MY NEIGHBOR'S HOME
My neighbors requested this painting. Traded it for their friendship. Others to follow next year!
